Research

First, victims who do not wish to enter any personal information may research their rights by clicking on the “Research Database” tab. Victims will be prompted to enter some information about themselves and the nature of the crime they have been affected by. The system will then return a specialized listing of all rights, requirements, requests, best practices and supplemental information that apply to the victim based upon the selections the victim made in the brief questionnaire. The victim should note that the accuracy of results depends entirely on the accuracy of the information the victim provides.

Create a Case and View My Case

Second, victims who wish to have more individualized results, logged in users who wish to track their case timelines, and victims who wish to use the request-your-rights letter generator, may do so by clicking on the “Create a Case” tab, and subsequently, the "View My Case" tab. Victims will be prompted to answer a series of specific questions regarding information about themselves, the offender, and the crime. Victims will then be able to view a list of all applicable rights (select “All Applicable Rights”) that apply to them, and produce letters to request certain rights by selecting “Request Your Rights.” The victim should note that the accuracy of results depends entirely on the accuracy of the information the victim provides.
